Practice of Routines
The performance, potentially, consists of a daily act of drawing.
At its core is my interest in the maintenance work of artistic practices: a repetitive gesture opens up a space for continuity by deploying drawing, one of the most basic tools of a visual artist.
Curious about what a repetitive and accumulative act can unfold, carry, or bring forth, the durational piece aims to support the development of artistic practices: a dialogue between the maker and their work, while resisting fast-paced and outcome-oriented modes of production and performance.


Shared Practices
Since 2022, I have practiced the piece as a shared routine. Each year, I invite an artist to draw with me for a full calendar year at a time. The piece lives on the terms of collaboration.
During the collaboration, a way of working and a perspective emerge through the encounter between our practices. Themes have included 2x 365 daily drawings (with Roos Nieboer), exercises of queering a routine (with Eirini Mantinaou), and drawing while talking (as a starting point for the year with Emma Fält).
The collaboration extends over two years: the first year is dedicated to the performance of (daily) drawings, and the latter offers space to observe and work further with the materials and notions from the performance year. The year may take different forms of outcome, like an exhibition, a residency period, or a publication.


Support structure for a Performance
I provide a starting package consisting of a workbook for reflecting on the performance, stickers for marking the performance, and a date stamp to give a timeline for the drawings. On a monthly basis, I host a meeting to discuss, think together, and plan.
Drawing and the drawings are not, by default, public. To protect the dialogue between makers and their work, there is a legal contract drafted by a lawyer that outlines the commitment to the performance and its conditions. The contract serves as a public utterance of the performance.
